It's true – I did stay in a treehouse in Ohio and actor Matthew McConaughey has stayed here too. So let's find out what makes this unique accommodation option in Ohio's Mohican Wilderness alright, alright, alright.

Actually, it's better than alright. This is a beautiful property called The Mohican Treehouse Resort and Wedding Venue, located in Glenmont, Ohio. One of the best places to stay in Ohio for nature lovers, couples, and families, the treehouse resort is set on 75 wooded acres in Ohio’s Mohican Valley near Columbus and Cleveland.

The lodging options include treehouse rentals and cabins, as well as two country homes that are more suitable for groups. I was fortunate to experience two of the treehouses during my weekend in the Mohicans with my husband and our dog (yes, some of these rentals are pet friendly!) From the Silver Bullet Airstream Treehouse to the more traditional Wildwood Tent, here are my thoughts on these two unique accommodation options in Ohio for nature lovers.

Where to Stay in Ohio (for Nature Lovers)

The Airstream Treehouse AKA The Silver Bullet

Staying in a retro Airstream trailer is a cool experience on its own, but put it in a tree and you've literally taken it to the next level. This was the perfect weekend getaway spot in Ohio for couples seeking a romantic retreat.

The converted airstream is surrounded by a wraparound porch with an outdoor shower and seating area. Once inside, you enter an extension which houses a grand bathroom, featuring a steam shower. The decor is beautiful and modern, and the large bathroom was a welcome inclusion given the tight layout of the airstream itself.

Inside the airstream, there is a seating area and a small television with a DVD player for your offline weekend entertainment. The kitchen is fully equipped with dishes and cookware and features a camping stove so you can cook all your meals. The rustic interior of the airstream makes you feel closer to the nature surrounding the treehouse.

Beyond the kitchen is a cozy bedroom with a double bed, perfect for couples. While the seating area can be converted into a second bed to sleep four people, I would only recommend booking this space for two as it can feel quite tight and crowded with the shape of the airstream.

Down below, the treehouse has a firepit complete with logs to burn and Adirondack chairs for a relaxed evening in the woods. Be mindful that the treehouses are only accessible by a steep staircase.

The Wildwood Tent

After a night in the Airstream, we moved to the Wildwood Tent, the property's newest treehouse. This large, canvas-style tented treehouse is spacious and perfect for families or for two couples to share, because it has two double beds.

There is a small kitchenette with a sink and cooking utensils plus a comfortable couch and seating area. There is also a mini fridge to support the "glamping" experience. Similar to the Airstream, there is a large bathroom at the back of the Wildwood Tent with a steam shower that makes the whole place feel more luxurious.

However, my favourite element of the Wildwood Tent was the large front porch area, complete with a dining table and chairs. We ate most of our meals out here, enjoying the view of the surrounding forest and the deer that were grazing peacefully within it.

Our dog, Nara, also appreciated this part of the treehouse and spent her time surveying the forest below as if it were her kingdom.

This is a great place to stay if you're looking for a dog-friendly option – Nara had a blast!

Besides enjoying a nature retreat in your treehouse and unplugging for the weekend (there is no Wi-Fi on the property) you'll want to plan for some outings in the area to get a better appreciation for the beauty of the Mohican Wilderness.

Some of the top things to do in the Mohican Wilderness include hiking the Gorge Overlook Trail in Mohican State Park, visiting local wineries like Ugly Bunny, or learning about the Amish communities near Glenmont, Ohio, by visiting local farms and shops.
